Event: Launch of Indian Film Festival of Houston Venue: Consul General of India Houston Residence Date: June 30, 2009 Indian and American women were seen dressed in elegant saris and summer outfits to set a festive tone at the home of Chhaya and Sanjiv Arora, Consul General of India, for a dinner launching the upcoming Indian Film Festival of Houston. The Aroras, festival honorary chairs, and more than 80 prominent leaders of the community joined in to launch the event, which will be only the second Indian film festival in North America. Houstonians were excited as Bollywood comes to Houston Sept. 21-26 and gather in a star-studded gala at Hotel Sorella, scheduled to open next month at Town & Country citycentre. Guests for the evening included Carolyn Farb, Lily and Charles Foster, Dr. Devinder Bhatia, Joanne King Herring, Harris County Judge Ed Emmett and wife Gwen, Carroll and Hugh Ray, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee and John Tsacrios, national director of development for medisend. Among the Bollywood celebs expected to attend are Oscar-winner AR Rahman, composer for Slumdog Millionaire, actress Manisha Koirala, Deepti Naval, television star Mohammad Iqbal Khan, and Indi pop singer Sonu Nigaam.
